On24October2000,coincidingwithaspecialprogrammedevotedtoveteranMexicandirectorArturoRipstein,theTVprogrammeVERSIÓNESPAÑOLA,shownonchannelLa2,broadcastLOSDIMINUTOSDELCALVARIOasacomplement.TheideamadethestaffsoenthusiasticthattheydecidedtopromoteproductionofaSpanishsetoftheseDIMINUTOS.Todoso,theyorganisedamicro-scriptcontestforone-minutestoriestobeshotinasinglesequentialshot.Thefollowingyear,withthecomplicityofJavierCastroandConchaDiaz’sproductioncompanyFILMART,LOSDIMINUTOSDELCALVARIO,PARTII–SPAINpremiered,withtentinyfilmsshotbytentalentedSpanishshortdirectorswhohadpreviouslyparticipatedintheIberoamericanshortcontestVERSIÓNESPAÑOLA/SGAE. ThebroadcastwasverysuccessfulandtheprogrammedecidedtoprepareanothersetofDIMINUTOS,thistimeencouragedbyJulioFernández’sCatalanproductioncompanyFILMAX.Giventhiscompany’sspecialisationinthefantasygenre,thenewsetwasdevotedexclusivelytothisgenre.Twelveshortfilmdirectorswerechosenthistime.
