IfSarnosetouttomakeaneroticfilmthatrivaledBergman,hecouldnothavedoneabetterjob.Theactingbytheentirecastisexcellent--noneoftheseactorsseemtohavebeeninanyotherSarnofilm.Whiletheindoorsceneswereshotinstudio,theexteriorswereshotonSwedishfarmlandinthemiddleofaveryharshwinter,andtheendlesssnowfallsandcoldaddsanevenmoreclaustrophobicfeelingtoafilmthat,fromthestart,isrifewithtensionanduneasiness.AlthoughIhaven'tgoneintoverymuchdetailabouttheplot,thereisn'tmuchmoretotell,justatrue-to-lifestoryoffamilytensionsthatareprobablyall-too-realandcouldbegoingontodayinanyhomeinyourneighborhood.OnceagainSarnoproveshecanmakeanintelligent,erotic,respectablefilmthatdeservesitsre-release.TheprintonDVDseemstobefromseveralsources--thefontofthesubtitlesisdifferentinsomescenesthaninothers--andtheprintisdamagedandchoppyinspots,butagainthisistheonlyversionknowntoexist,sowemustrelishthisdiamond-in-the-roughthatonlySarnocouldhavecut.…
