简介：CaoFei’smultimediainstallationAsiaOne(2018)centersonafictionalfilmofthesamenameanddepictssomeofChina’smostadvancedindustrialfacilities,includingtheworld’sfirstfullyautomatedsortingcenter,inKunshan,JiangsuProvince.Thefilmfollowstheonlytwohumanemployeesatagiganticsortingcenter,whichisrepletewithsleekinfrastructure,speedyrobots,andconstantlyflowingstock,butotherwiseeerilyempty.Atfirst,theemployeesappeartobeclosertothemachinesandrobotsaroundthemthantheyaretoeachother,butabonddevelopsbetweenthetwoaftertheybegintorebelagainstthepristineefficiency,predictability,andorderlinessoftheirsurroundings.Skippingbetweentimeperiods,thefilmisinterspersedwithscenesofvisitorsfromthefuturewhoinspectthenow-defunctfacility,andasurrealsequenceinwhichagroupofworkers,dressedtoevokethecharactersofCulturalRevolution–eramodeloperas,dancetosynth-drivendiscomusicunderabannerthatproclaims,“Humansandmachines,handinhand.”…
