简介:AsayoungmaninthelateSixties,GregDavisservedforthreeyearsintheU.S.ArmyinVietnam.Theareawherehewasstationedwasoneofmanythroughoutthecountrysprayedbythemilitary,aspartofitscounterinsurgencystrategy,withmillionsofgallonsofdefoliants,includingAgentOrange,whichcontainsdioxin,themosttoxicchemicalknowntoman. Afterhismilitaryservice,DavismarriedandworkedfordecadesasaphotojournalistforTimeandotherpublicationsworldwide.In2003,attheageof54,hediedfromlivercancer,believedtobetheresultofhisexposuretoAgentOrange.ProducedbyDavis'swidow,AGENTORANGEchroniclesthehistoryofthislethallytoxicherbicide,tracingitseffectsnotonlyonherhusbandandotherU.S.servicemenbutalsoontheenvironmentandcontinuinggenerationsofVietnamese. Davis'spersonalexperiences—recountedthroughphotosandaudiorecordings,archivalfootage,reminiscencesbyhiswidowandafellowphotographer—arecomplementedbyU.S.Armyfilmsdeclaringthedefoliantstobe"harmlesstoman."AGENTORANGEalsodocumentsthebroaderhumantragedy,featuringinterviewswithVietnamesedoctors,aU.S.ArmyveteranwhohasreturnedtodohumanitarianworkinVietnam,andheartrendingscenesofgenerationsofVietnamesechildrenwithcongenitaldisabilitiesorphysicaldeformities.
