Thesecondandmorepowerfulpartofthefilmlooksatthedrasticallyshrinkingorcapopulationaroundtheworldandattributesthedecrease,inevitably,topollutionandhumanenterprisethatupsetsnature'sdelicatebalance.AlthoughPCBswerebannedinthe'70s,thechemicals,aswellasothercontaminantsintheairandwater,canremaininanorca'ssystemfordecades,whichhasresultedincalvesbornwithbirthdefects. Themorechallengingissue,andtheonethatevenmoretellinglyshowsthefragilityofnature'sinterconnectedness,hastodowiththefateofthesalmonpopulation.InthePacificNorthwest,forexample,salmonhavebeentheorca'smainsourceoffood.Weallknowthatthesalmonpopulationisdecreasing,butasCousteauandotherscientistscontend,partofthereasonthefisharedecreasingisthatmanhascreatedsalmonfarmswhichhaveactuallyhurtwildsalmonbecausethecultivatedfishhogallthefoodinsharedwaters.…
