HavingspenttwoyearsstudyingfilminRomeintheearly50s,TaitsoonreturnedtoScotlandtostartherownprojects.Sheblendedthematter-of-factimageryoftheNeo-Realistswithhermorelyricalsensibilities,seekingadepictionofrealitythatwasclosertopoetrythantoafilmdocumentarystyle.Languageishighlyprevalentinherwork,beittheelegiacvoiceovers,useofdialectsorchalked-outwordscroppingupinherimages,addingrhythmandsyntaxtothefootageshecaptures.
