简介：HalitRefig,Turkishfilmmaker,filmcriticandtheoreticianandanintellectualwasborninIzmir,Turkeyin1934toanindustrialfamily.HeattendedSisliTerakkiHighSchoolandbrieflyattendedRobertCollegeEngineeringDept.DuringhismilitaryservicehestartedmakingdocumentariesinJapan,KoreaandSriLankawithaSuper8camera.In1957hestartedtheTurkishFilmReview(SinemaDergisi)withfellowfilmcriticNijatOzon.LaterheassisteddirectorAtifYilmazintwofilms.In1961hedirectedhisfirstfeature,Yasakask(1961).HisapproachtofilmmakingwasinfluencedbyhisfriendshipwiththefamousTurkishnovelistKemalTahir.ThiscollaborationgavefruittoFourWomenintheHarem,whichRefigscriptedandlaterproductionofYorgunsavasci(1979)in1979,themostcontroversialfilmevermadeinTurkishfilmhistory.Refigdefendeditandpublishedatheoryofnationalcinema,whichhenamedUlusalSinema(nationalcinema).LaterherevisedhistheoryandcalledhisworkATUT(AsiaticModeofProduction)cinemaorHalkSinemasi(CinemaofthePeople).Refigcollectedhisarticlesonnationalcinemainavolume;UlusalSinemaKavgasi(FightforanationalCinema).RefigandhisfellowfilmmakerslikeMetinErksanandLutfiAkadmadenationalistfilmsuntillate1960s.In1974,thenewlyestablishedTurkishRadioandTelevisionCorporation(TRT)commissionedRefigtomakealiteraryadaptationofaTurkishnovelofhischoice.Theresultwas_Ask-imemnu(1974)(TV)_(ForbiddenLove)whichwashailedasthefirstTurkishTVminiseries.In1975RefigjoinedfellowfilmmakerstoestablishtheTurkishCinemaandTVInstitute.…
