InDecember1709inVeniceHändel’ssuccesssealshisvalueasanexcellentoperawriterandpropelshimtowardsthemajorEuropeancourts.In1710hebecomesChapelmasteratthecourtofHanover,byfartooprovincialastageforsuchanemergingtalent. OnAugust1st1714theElectorofHannoverascendsthethroneofEngland,thefirstmonarchoftheHouseofHanover,thusplacingHändelinanembarrassingposition. ThekinggrantsHändelforgivenessthankstoBaronKielmanseggandhewritestheWaterMusic,theworld-famousconcertcomposedtobeperformedtothecourtasitsaileddowntheThamesonabarge.AgrandeventtoglorifyGeorgeIcommissionedtotheonlymusiciandeemedtobeuptosuchmagnificence.Itwasanabsolutetriumph! Händlealsobecomesmusictutortotheking’schildrenandestablishesawonderfulrelationshipwithPrincessAnna,whohasatrueloveofandtalentformusic.TotheSaxoncomposersheisjustlikeadaughter.
