简介:IntheclosingmonthsofWorldWarII,defeatwasloomingfortheGermans.TheinvasionofNormandyonJune6,1944--D-Day--openedasecondAlliedfront,andtheAlliesbeganovertakingahostofGermanpositions;PariswasliberatedonAugust25;RomaniaandBulgariasurrenderedinquicksuccession.ButtheNazisdidnotintendtogodownwithoutafight--andwithoutinflictingasmuchdamageaspossibleontheAllies.Todoso,theyemployedorplannedtoemployanincreasinglydeadlyarrayofmilitaryweapons--fromballisticmissilestorocketplanesto,perhaps,theatomicbomb.
