简介：Thisdown-to-earthstorythattakesplaceinthemountainsofNorthCaucasus,betweentwoadjacentvillages–OssetianToliandGeorgianTeli–tellsusaboutsimpleandnaïvepeoplethatgovernmentstrytodividetodaybyanofficialstateborder.Thesepeoplewishtoliveinpeaceandharmony,inspiteofethnicdifferences,astheirancestorslivedforhundredsofyears.Theyareaccustomedtosolvealltheconflictspeacefully,followingCaucasiancustoms–aroundagreattable,withwineandsongs… TheactiontakesplaceinoneofthemountaingorgesofCentralCaucasusRidge,wheretwovillagespeacefullycoexistedsincetimesimmemorial,oneofthemToli,inhabitedbyOssetians,anotheroneTeli,inhabitedbyGeorgians.Twoabandonedvillages,withoutgasorelectricity,andnowdividedbystateborderthatfollowsashallowriverAragavka.InTelilivesa70-year-oldGeorgianKakhiKipiani,hiswifeSofiko,theirgrandsonGochaandalonelyshepherdShaliko.TheonlypeopleleftinToliareanOssetianwidowerBaziKesayev,ofthesameagewithKakhiandhisgoodfriend,hisgranddaughterSatinikandashepherdValiko.BothOssetiansandGeorgians,usedtotheirwayoflife,cannotaccepttheborderthatdividesthem.Theonlythingtheystillshareareacemeteryandasmallchurch.Thevillagedwellershavebeenlongconsidered‘strangepeople’bypeoplefromoutsideand,intheirturn,thevillagersdonottrustthosethattheycall‘valleypeople’.TheborderisguardedfromtheGeorgiansidebyLieutenantGogiPirtzkhalavaofGeorgianPoliceandfromtheRussiansidebythePrivateMaksimIvanov. ThebeautifulnatureofCaucasusisveryimportantfromthedramaturgicpointofview,andtheobjectswerechosenverycarefully.FinallyadecisionwastakentoshootthefilminthebestpearlofCaucasus,theRepublicofNorthOssetia-Alania,generouslyendowedbythenaturewithinaccessiblemountains,impetuousmountainrivers,boundlessforestsandrichhistory.
