ItnaturallyfollowedthattheaestheticsoftheyoungKazakh"NewWaveCinema"dominatedfeaturefilmsinKazakhstanduringthe1990s.Thisaesthetics,inonedegreeoranother,openlyproclaimeditsactiverejectionoftheartistictraditionsofSovietcinema,ofthemythsandidealsofsocialistsociety.ThephilosophyoftheKazakh"NewWave"receiveditsclearestandmostconvincingrepresentationinAprymov’sandOmirbaev’sfilms,aswellasincertainfilmsbyKarakulov(TheLastVacation).FilmsmadebyotherrepresentativesoftheKazakh"NewWave"—forexample,ArdakAmirkulov’sTheFallofOtrar(1991)orAbai(1995);TalgatTemenov’sAWolfCubAmongPeople(1989),LoveStation(1993),orMovingTarget(1991);AbaiKarpykov’sAFishinLove(1989)orFara(1999)—arenotinessencecompatiblewiththeaestheticsystemandtheideologyofauteurcinemathatissocharacteristicofAprymov’sandOmirbaev’sfilms.…
