简介：TheWareCasewastobeavehicleforCliveBrook(whohadstarredinBalcon'sfirstfilm,WomantoWoman,in1922)andtobedirectedbyRobertStevenson,whohadmadefilmsatGaumont-British,includingTudorRose.TheWareCase,asuccessfulplaybyG.P.Bancroft,hadalsobeenfilmedtwicebeforeinsilentdays,firstin1927byWalterWest,andagainin1928withStewartRome.ThistimeCliveBrookplaystheunhappybaronetwhoistriedforthemurderofhisbrother-in-lawafterthedamningcorpseisfoundfloatinginhisgardenpond,afterhisacquittalheisangeredtofindhislawyerhasbecomeromanticallyinvolvedwithhiswife.Anargumentensues,duringwhichthefinancierconfesseshisguiltandthenmakesafatalleapfromabalcony. Thepointofthefilmwasreallythateventhemostdissoluteofaristocrats,afterhavingcharmedhiswayoutofamurderconviction,coulddotherightthingintheend.InspiteofthetechnicalglossoftheOldBaileycourtroomset(mostofthestoryistoldinflashbackatthetrial),TheWareCaseisastagey,melodramaticpiece.Butitwasmadeonschedulewithinitsbudget,andwasthusabletogointoprofit.
