简介:In1917,directorMajorLuizThomazReistravelswithhisassociate,MarshallCândidoMarianoRondonthroughtheCenter-WestandNorthofBrazil,beingtheofficialcinematographeroftheexpedition."AoRedordoBrasil"isafootagewiththefragmentsofthreefilmsofMajorReis. InthebeginningoftheTwentiethCentury,theconceptofnationalintegrationwasunknowninBrazil.WiththeformationoftheRondonCommission,MajorReisbecametheofficialcinematographerofthecommission,andthroughhisimages,hesearchedfortheknowledgeoftheBrazilianlandsandpeople(theIndians).Hisshootingsareamazing,consideringthelimitationsoftheequipmentinthattime.MajorReisbecamedirector,photographerandeditor,being100%responsibleforhisproductions.HelearnedhowtomakecinemainParis,butdevelopedandadaptedhisownequipmentforhisneeds,havingagreatconcernwithtechnology,technique,adaptationandaesthetic.Hedevelopedhisownstrategyoffilming,whichwasbasedontherespectfortheobject,tryingtounderstandtheIndianculture,shootingthecommonIndian,andnotthetribalchief.Thejunglewasthelandscape,thescenarioonly,notthesubject,andMajorReisisconsideredbytheexpertise,thefirstgreatinterpreteroftheBrazilianreality.Onlythismovie,indeedacompilationofthreeothers,and"RituaiseFestasBorôro(1917)"survivedtotime,andtheserarefilmsareonlyavailableintheCinematecofMAM(ModernArtMuseumofRiodeJaneiro).Hediedin1940,whenawallfeltonhimduringashooting.Asafinalremark,HectorBabenco's"AtPlayintheFieldsoftheLord(1991)"hasasceneidenticaltoMajorReis"AoRedordoBrasil",withthecanoeontheriver.…
