Amanifoldidentity,Ernacombinesinnocenceandperversity—herLolitaside—,excessandcruelty.Abody,afaceinconstantmetamorphosis...Extremeplasticityandexpressivity...Sometimesthefaceofanangel,sometimesthatofademon… InthefilmCrossover,thegroupPONIappearsfromthepointofviewofthecharacterplayedbyErnaOmarsdottir:PONIisbothanimaginingofErnaand(almost)arecordedreality.Infact,itisontheborderlinebetweentherealandtheimaginary:theshotsfeaturingthemusiciansofPONIofcoursebringtomindaconcert,butthedaylightthatlightsthem,conceivedforthefilm,alightwithoutanytheatricaleffect,‘de-realises’themandplungesthemintoanimaginaryworld.Thisde-realisationeffectisreinforcedbytheuseofverylongfocallengths(150and300mm),whichgivethetwosingers,ErnaOmarsdottirandKateMacIntosh,anexceptionalpresencethatisnearlyunreal.Infact,theshotswithPONIsimulatetheconcert:theyplayasiftheywereinconcertbutonastageturnedintoafilmset.Thisthoroughlystrangesituationgivestheirmusicatensionoraparticularintensity.ItisinthatcontextthatPONIproducedtheirmusic:boththesameandanother,different.
