ThefilmisnotperfectbutIcouldn'tcareless.Anumberofcharactersareasdimlyseenasfacesacrossasubwaycar.Thesenseofalienationthatgripsthecityattimesseizesthefilmitself,thoughalmostalwaysinfascinatingways.Afilmoflessconsistentintelligencewouldprobablybedestroyedbyascenesopricelesslyfunnyit'salmostaspecialtynumber,whentheauxiliarypolicemenandtheirwivesattendalectureonrapeby"theauthorofthebest-sellingbook,'SexualDeviationsoftheSeventies.'""LawandDisorder"isfullofeccentricthings,oneofthemostmarvelousbeingKarenBlack,whoplaysalasciviouslylunaticbeauticianwhosimplycan'tkeephertongueinplace.Mr.O'ConnorreinsinhisfamiliarArchieBunkerpersonalitytogiveafine,controlledperformanceasthestalwartWillie,whileMr.Borgnineisinspiredcastingastheunhappyhairdresser."LawandDisorder"hasnoneofthevicariousthrillsof"DeathWish."It'sthoughtfulaboutpeople,evenvicioushoods.It'salsovery,veryfunny.
