SergeDaneyisoneofthemostimportantfiguresofFrenchfilmcriticism,thoughverylittleofhisworkhasbeentranslatedintoEnglish,totheregretofmanycinephiles.HeworkedasacriticforCahiersducinémastartingin1964,andasitseditorfrom1973to1981,beforeleavingforthedailynewspaperLibération.Hediedin1992.GeorgesFranju’sEyesWithoutaFacecausedcontroversyandreceivedmixedreviewsuponitsreleasein1960,butisnowconsideredaclassicandmasterpieceforitspoeticnature,aninfluenceonmanyfilmmakers. Throughpenetratingassociationsoftext,clips,andsounds,allpoppinguponasimulatedcomputerscreen,FrenchresearcherandfilmmakerChloéGalibert-Laînéresurrectsthedialoguebetweenthesetwofigures,conductinganinvestigationintothenoisethatterrifiedDaney,aswellasothersthathavescaredher.Galibert-Laînéclearsthepathofherresearchandsucceedsatchillingtheviewerinturn.
