Thefilmdepictstheperiodleadinguptothecoupandseveraldaysafterit.Inatimeofeconomicturmoil,sixgeneralsarekidnappedandkilledbythePKIandAirForce,purportedlytopre-emptacoupagainstPresidentSukarno.GeneralSuhartodestroysthecoupand,afterwardsurgestheIndonesianpopulacetocommemoratethosekilledandfightagainstallformsofcommunism.ThefilmshowstheG30Sleadershipasruthlessandplanning"everymovetothelastdetail,"takingjoyinusingexcessiveviolenceandtorturingthegenerals,depictionswhichhavebeenreadasportraying"thestate'senemiesasoutsidetherealmofthehuman". Thefirstcommerciallyreleaseddomesticfeaturefilmtodealwiththeeventsof1965,PengkhianatanG30S/PKIwasacommercialandcriticalsuccess.Itwasnominatedforsevenawardsatthe1984IndonesianFilmFestival,winningone,andreachedrecordviewershipnumbers–althoughinmanycasesaudienceswererequiredtoseethefilm.ItwasusedasapropagandavehiclebytheNewOrdergovernmentuntilitscollapse;televisedannuallyon30Septemberandbecamemandatoryviewingforstudents.SincethefallofSuhartoin1998,suchuseofthefilmhasbecomelesscommon.Althoughthefilm'sartisticaspectsremainwell-received,itsmisrepresentationofhistoryhasbeencriticised. 详情
