ThisdocumentaryonthelifeandworkofAbyWarburg,tracesthedevelopmentofhisideasintheirhistoricalcontext.FromhisearlystudiesontheearlyItalianRenaissancetohisventuresintheAmericanSouthwestobservingHopiandZuniritualdancesin1895,WarburgsoughtthelegacyofancientGreeceintheimagesandsymbolsofcultures,whichhefollowedthroughiconographicstudiesthathepioneered.Hesoughtconnectionsbetweengestureandartinantiquity,theRenaissanceandmoderntimes.UnderneaththeseemingrationalityofantiquityandtheRenaissance,hesensedconflictandirrationality.
