Afterhisdeath,whichproceedswithoutanyfurtherexplanationorado,weseeSelim’simageappearinanexhibitionbyapretentiousphotographer.Ashehangsnonchalantlyonthegallerywall–lookinglikethelove-childofJean-PaulBelmondoandJamesDean,completewithcigarettedanglingfromhislips–avisitortothegallerycommentsthattheroundframingoftheseportraitsofthedeadisreminiscentoffilm.Theactualfilmframethenalsoadoptsthiscircularform,thistimewithSelim’sfriendTamaraatthecentre. Whatfollowsisinmanywayslikeasnakeswallowingitsowntail,withbothmakerandworkconstantlyself-referencing;intheeternalcycleofbirthanddeaththiscreates,SelimandTamarafinallybecometheirownancestors.Thenaked,queerbodyonceagainplaysaprominentroleinthisconcludinginstalmentofMourad’sLinceultrilogy–precededbytheshortsLinceul(2017)andCortex(2018).Usingacombinationofpainterlyimages,formexperimentation,mythicalmotifsandphilosophicalcommentary,AgatemousseformsanaestheticantidotetofearofTheEnd.
