BroomfieldalsospenttimewithaTownCouncilloranddiamondmineownernamedJohannandhisfriendAnton.BroomfieldhadplannedtointerviewBoervolkleaderPietRudolphbutwhenontheoutskirtsofPretoriaanewsbroadcastinformedthemthathe'dbeenarrested,RudolphwasafugitivewantedinconnectionwiththetheftofsomearmsfromanSADefenceForcebaselocatedinPretoria.AfterhisarrestinPretoria,MrRudolphwasdubbedasthe'SouthAfricanBobbySands'inreferencetohisproclamationthathewouldgoonahungerstrikeinordertopromotehis(andtheAWB's)causeforawhitehomeland.
