ThetwomenjoinanexpeditionorganizedbyZebandFrenchytotravel2000milesuptherivertotradewiththeBlackfootIndians,incompetitionwiththeMissouriCompany.ZebhasbroughtalongTealEye(ElizabethThreatt),aprettyBlackfootwomanZebfoundseveralyearsbeforeaftershehadescapedfromanenemytribe.Zebintendstouseherasahostage,assheisthedaughterofachief.Onthejourney,theyencounteranotherBlackfootZebknows,Poordevil(HankWorden);theytakehimalong.Later,TealEyefallsintotheriverandisrescuedfromrapidsbyBoone. TheMissouriCompanyknowsaboutthethreattotheirmonopoly.Oneday,itmakesitsmove.ApartyledbyStreak(JimDavis)capturesTealEyeandtriestoburntheboat,butFrenchywakesupbeforethefirecausesmuchdamage.PoordeviltrackstheenemyandZebandJimrescuethewoman.Later,theexpeditionputsinatacompanytradingpostandleavesawarningnottointerfere.Aweeklater,theyrepulseanattackbyCrowIndians.Jimisseparatedfromthegroupandshotintheleg.Boone,followedbyTealEyeandPoordevil,findshim,extractsthebulletandwaitsforhisfriendtoheal.Whentheyrejointheirband,theyfindStreaktryingtobuytheboatandthegoodsonit.JimcomparesthebulletdugoutofhislegwithoneofStreak'sandfindsthemtobethesame.Streakandhismenarekilledintheensuingshootout.
