NeighborHassan(OliverHaden)isfromTurkey,though,andheandlovingdaughterJulie(SaraGregory)tendtoremindLeigh-Anneofeverythingshelacks,includingparentsandrealaffection.Asante'sextremelyskilledscriptresistsgoingtheKenLoachrouteofportrayingafullysympatheticworking-classheroine,however.Justonescene,inwhichLeigh-Anneisrevealedtobeapimp,supplyingschoolgirlstooldermeninpubs,isenoughtomakeheralmostirredeemablyrepellant. Intermsofskillandpassion,theadolescentensemblerecallsthatin"MeanCreek,"butit'sJameswhoshootsthelightsoutwithanabsolutelysensationalhandlingofanearlyimpossiblecharacter.Herfierydeliveryseemsalmosttoomuchtobearearlyon,butthewrathandlovearesomehowbalancedandpacedforfulleffect.Thoughshe'sinfamiliarform,Blethyn'sinteractionwithJamesbringsoutafreshferocity.
