简介:Fromatopographicperspective,UlrikeOttinger’scinemaismostlylocatedbetweenBerlinandremoteplacesintheFarEastortheFarNorth.InParisCalligrammes,sheexploresthelandscapeofhermemoriesofthecitythatshecalledhomefor20yearsandthathelpedshapeherbeginningsasapainterandfilmmaker.OttingermovedtoParisinhertwentiesandimmersedherselfintheculturalsceneofthe1950spopulatedbyheroesoftheavant-gardeandanewgenerationofartistsandintellectuals.Meanderingbetweenbookshops,concerthalls,theatres,cinemas,museumsandcafés,Ottingerpresentsherpersonalpantheon,andatthesametimemapsadecisiveerabothinart–asDadaandSurrealismgavewaytoSituationismandPopArt–andinpoliticswhere,in-betweenpost-warhopes,theAlgerianconflictandthestudentmovementsof1968,therewasmuchtodiscuss.Nonetheless,thefilmmaintainsitsintimatestancethroughout,assemblingarichandemotionallychargedrepertoireoffilmclips,newsreports,photosandsongswiththesamemeticulousaffectionthatpeopleusedtosticknewspaperclippingsandphotosinadiarysotheycouldwritearoundthem.…
