TheappalledlookonactorKevinEldon'sfaceintheopeningsketchoftheseries,asayoungcoupleinvitehimtoendurebeingbuggeredbyamutualacquaintance("Ineedabreak"),setsthetone.Rape,chemotherapy,wantonurination--asanaked"RobertKilroy-Silk"goesinsaneinasketchfullofdetestationfortheoleaginousTVpresenter--andrecurringsketchesinvolvingcallouslyauthoritarianNHSdoctors,allgotomakeuptheseannalsofthebizarreandperverse. Ultimately,Jamdoesn'tquitework,notonTVanyway.Therepetitionofthesame,smallcastoverandover,brokenuptoobrieflybyMorris'ownappearances(asa"countrygentleman"livingoutsidehishouse,forinstance),coupledwiththegruellingtreatmentofthesketchmaterialmakesforapsyche-probing,jaw-droppingexperience--butinpartsalsoanullifyingandstrangelypredictableone.Morris's"failures"arefarmoreinterestingthanmostpeople'ssuccesses.--DavidStubbs…
