Themaincharacteristicoftheperformanceisthatthechorusisn’tstill,itmovesaroundonthestage.Themovementsinspacearen’tspecifiedinthescript;sometimesthechorusmovesaroundchaotically,sometimestheycometogetherontheproscenium,sometimestheygatheratthebackofthestage.Inthesameway,thesoloistsmovearoundfreely.Thankstothelighting,thesemovementscreateaplayofchiaroscuro.Thefilmisnoteditedinatraditionalmanner.Wedidn’ttrytorespecttheusualsuccessionoftheframes,nordidwefollowthesoloists,nordidwetrytosustaintherhythmofthemusicalworkthroughourediting.Therhythmofthefilmchanges,itdoesn’talwayscoincidewiththerhythmofthemusic.Thespectatorfollowsthechangesoflighting,themovementsoftheinterpreters,theirfaces,theiremotions.ThepeopleofSaintPetersburgwhocametoseetheperformancearealsothecharactersofthefilm.
